OTHM LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS STUDIES (RQF)

OVERVIEW

The content of OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies qualification is focused on managing communication, business organisations in a global context, people management and finance, as well as an understanding of the research skills and personal development expected of a manager. It includes a broad range of highly relevant business and management subject areas, making it ideal for those who have started, or are planning to move into, a career in private of public sector business. The programme allows learners to acquire knowledge and understanding in a range of topics and to develop key skills they require to work in Business Management roles.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The OTHM Level 3 qualifications can be offered to Learners from age 16. OTHM does not specify entry requirements for these qualifications, but Centres are required to ensure that learners admitted to the programme have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and assessment.

QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE

The OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies consists of 4 mandatory units plus 2 optional units that provide for a combined total of 60 credits:

Mandatory Units

  • Personal, Professional and Academic Development (10 credits): ensure that learners have an appropriate grounding in key academic, personal and professional skills required for successful study at this level and subsequent employment and/or further study.
  • Using IT for Business (10 credits): familiarise learners with the use, application and development of core study and academic skills including the use of IT, preparation for presentations, and formats for academic writing such as essay and report formats.
  • Fundamentals of Business Accounting (10 credits): provide learners with an understanding of the basic principles of accounting in a business environment; develop an understanding of the content of basic financial statements and the principles of recording financial transactions.
  • Introduction to the Business Environment (10 credits): enable students to explore the different internal and external elements of a business, understand the business context and explore the political, social, economic, technological and ethical considerations affecting businesses; also enables learners to explore common aims and characteristics of business and to understand business structures, cultures and function.

Optional Units (Choose any TWO)

  • Customer Service Excellence (10 credits): develop an understanding of the principles that apply to customer service delivery in organisations across different sectors and understand how to propose and implement improvements to customer service.
  • Managing Business Events (10 credits): develop an understanding of the principles that apply to the management of events in arrange of business sectors; introduce the reasons why businesses hold events and why these have become more prominent in recent years.
  • Introduction to Marketing (10 credits): develop an understanding of the role of marketing in the business environment, the principles of sales in a business; identify marketing models and theories, apply principles of marketing planning.
  • Introduction to People Management (10 credits): develop an understanding of the principles that apply to the management of people in a range of business sectors; introduces concepts such as reward, motivation and leadership.

DURATION AND DELIVERY

The qualification is designed to be delivered over six months for full-time study but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate fast track, part-time and distance learning. The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance and online.

ASSESSMENT AND VERIFICATION

All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the centre and verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.
To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, a learner must have successfully passed all learning outcomes for that unit.

PROGRESSIONS

Passing the OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies enable learners direct entry into Year 1 of a three year UK Bachelor’s degree or pursue OTHM Level 4 Diplomas.

 

OTHM LEVEL 4 DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT (RQF)

Equivalent to Year 1 of a three-year UK Bachelor’s degree

Introduction to Business Communication (20 credits): enhance learners’ business communication skills to enable them to operate confidently in the business world; enable learners to make persuasive presentations, negotiate convincingly, write reports solving strategic problems, write promotional material and enhance their skills of cross-cultural communication, their cultural awareness and their understanding of the role of languages in business.

Introduction to Quantitative Methods (20 credits): provides a review of basic concepts from mathematics, namely calculus, matrix algebra and probability that need to be understood by all business learners; emphasis rests on understanding these concepts and being able to apply them to a wide variety of mathematical problems.

Introduction to Business (20 credits): develop learners understanding of the types of businesses and to develop an appreciation of external influences on organisations such as the comparative environmental framework.

Introduction to Finance (20 credits): considers the current regulations governing financial reporting, the formats of financial statements and the purpose of these statements for different users.

The OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Business Management programme allows learners to acquire knowledge and understanding in a range of topics and to develop key skills they require to work in Business Management roles. This is done through a substantial core of mandatory units. The core content of this qualification is for those entering a strategic level of management with a key emphasis on developing an understanding of the research skills and personal development expected of a senior manager which will enable them to progress to higher level general management or specialised business programmes at a later stage in their business or academic careers.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Learner must fulfil at least one of the following criteria to be allowed entry to the qualification:

Possession of a UK level 5 diploma in related subject or an equivalent overseas qualification

Leadership and Organisational Behaviour (20 credits): enable learners to understand theories of leadership and management and how to use leadership and management skills to improve motivation and performance; explore the basic theories that describe how employees and employers understand their roles and interactions in the organisational settings, and how these assumptions determine how they structure their relationships.

Operations Management (20 credits): provide learners with an understanding of the production / operations management function in both manufacturing and service industries and to introduce key issues and techniques in operations management.

Financial Decision Making (20 credits): demonstrates the links between business decision making, risk assessment and financial information; depicts how businesses are financed through their fixed and working capital requirements and explains how the financial management of each organisation is influenced by its governance and ownership structure.

Munawar Ahmad Malik is a CeMAP Trainer (Mortgages & Protection). He has CeMAP qualification from Institute of Financial Services UK. He holds a master’s degree in applied mathematics. He conducts CeMAP courses from top three training companies in London. He is a mortgage advisor with A-1 Mortgage Advice Centre.

He started his career with State Life Insurance which is one of the largest life Insurance organizations in Southeast Asia. He gained promotion to sales officer, sales manager eventually progressing to area manager. He achieved gold medal, recruitment trophy and various other awards.

He has successfully conducted more than a hundred sessions for CeMAP courses from 2007-2014 lecturing to over two thousand students. He specializes in interactive class room training, one-to-one sessions, and supports his students using Skype, email and telephone.

Who is your trainer, can we see his profile?

Munawar Ahmad Malik is a CeMAP Trainer (Mortgages & Protection). He has CeMAP qualification from Institute of Financial Services UK. He holds a master’s degree in applied mathematics. He conducts CeMAP courses from top three training companies in London. He is a mortgage advisor with A-1 Mortgage Advice Centre.

He started his career with State Life Insurance which is one of the largest life Insurance organizations in Southeast Asia. He gained promotion to sales officer, sales manager eventually progressing to area manager. He achieved gold medal, recruitment trophy and various other awards.

He has successfully conducted more than a hundred sessions for CeMAP courses from 2007-2014 lecturing to over two thousand students. He specializes in interactive class room training, one-to-one sessions, and supports his students using Skype, email and telephone.

When teaching students his approach is to use presentations, group discussions, brain storming sessions, role plays, individual exercises, question answer sessions, case studies and finally working on mock papers. He has also taken time to complete PTLLS-Qualification to enhance his teaching style and techniques.

He is based in London. He speaks three languages English, Urdu and Punjabi. He enjoys networking, interacting with people and working in a multicultural environment.

B1 ENGLISH TEST PREPARATION FOR UK IMMIGRATION

As per Home Office (UKVI) guidelines, it is mandatory for all applicants who are applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain or Permanent Residence / Naturalisation or British Passport to demonstrate their knowledge of Language (KoL) and pass the “Life in the UK” test. In order to fulfil the requirement of Knowledge of Language, applicants need to obtain an English qualification at or above Entry level 3/ B1 CEFR level qualification on one of the Home Office’s lists of recognized English tests and qualifications. You must take all the tests at an approved test center. In order to obtain the “Life in the UK”, applicants need to pass the (multiple choice questions) online test.

You will need to:

  • have a speaking and listening qualification in English Entry level 3/ B1 CEFR or higher, or its equivalent; and
  • pass the Life in the UK test

Which is this the correct exam for me?

From November 2015, Candidates won’t be able to use ESOL qualifications as proof for settlement and citizenship applications. Candidates can prove their knowledge of English by having an English level B1, B2, C1 or C2 level qualification on one of the Home Office’s lists of recognized English tests and qualifications. Candidates must take all the tests at an approved test center.

Do you provide any preparation course for the B1 Exam?

We provide classroom based training sessions. It is not mandatory to book training session, but it is very helpful for the candidate in order to gain confidence and to understand the overall format of the test.

Do you provide preparation course for Trinity B1 Exam?

What is the duration of the course?

The duration of the course is 3 days (Monday-Wednesday) for 1 hour each day (9:30 A.M to 10:30 A.M). Days and time can be flexible as per the requirement of the learner and the availability of the trainer.
